The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Letter Opener

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is the best known scene in the Apocalypse (from Greek meaning "revelation"), the final canonical story of the New Testament of the Bible. After the first four seals of the book of judgement are broken, the Horsemen enter the world and bring pestilence, war, hunger and death to mankind. The four horsemen are "Conquest" on a white horse holding a bow; "War" on a red horse with a sword; "'Famine" on a black horse with a weighing scale; and "Death", on a pale horse, closely followed by Hades.

In Christian mythology the Apocalypse is known as a period of struggle that will end in the ultimate destruction of darkness. At the end of time this great battle, Armageddon, will take place and will forever seal the triumph of good over evil. The End times are symbolised with white riders in many other cultures too; the Islamic day of judgement has Mahdi on a white stallion; in Hinduism Kalki descends on a white horse wielding a blazing sword.
