Description of the Product
This medieval cutlery set is composed of a knife, a spoon, a pick and a fork. The knife is one of mankind’s most primitive inventions, and the spoon has been with us since the Neolithic period. Compared to these, the fork is a downright modern invention, although even it does date from Classical antiquity. The use of “the devils tool” did not, however, spread in medieval Europe ruled by Christianity. If people wished not to use their hands, they would use the eating pick to skewer their food and raise it to their mouth. Although the fork itself already existed at the time, it was commonly used only as a serving utensil. In spite of, or perhaps due to, the association of the fork with a luxurious and decadent lifestyle, the personal eating fork did not become commonplace in Europe until after the middle Ages, in the 18th century.
All items are hand-forged out of stainless steel and suitable to use even in our modern times. We recommend that you clean them thoroughly prior to first use. The four items of this set may be easily tied together with a leather strap (comes with the set) and carried for example on your belt. Length of utensils: approx. 22 cm.
Wide and high-quality selection, fast delivery and friendly staff. I recommend!
