Description of the Product

The length of underpants varied within time and location in Medieval Europe. We don?t know awful lot about undergarments but apparently during Early Medieval Times undergarments tended to be longer and when 1400's started short underpants had entered into the mix also. Midway sized underpants/briefs suit well into any era to finish you attire.

During Medieval times undergarments were made of hemp, nettle or linen. Best undergarments were made of nettle fabric as it was softest and was sometimes even compared to silk. Nettle is a natural plant that can be found all over Europe and has been used even before written history. Nettle was used to make tread, yarn, ropes, textiles, fishing nets etc. as it was available to anyone straight from the nature, it was also easy to farm and easy to process into useable textile material.

Nettle was used already during the Stone Age and it was still the most important fabric plant of the north at the beginning of the 20th Century. Nettle was farmed for the textile industry during 17th and 18th century in Northern Europe and was finally replaced by cotton in the industrial revolution during 19th century.

These pants can be used either as authentic underpants or as short pants / shorts for the summer time. The material is soft to the touch and nettle as 100% natural fiber breaths very well. Light and cozy to wear.

High quality local hand work. Material is 100% nettle fabric (ramie). Pants can be washed in warm 30 degrees (celcius) machine wash using gentle wash program or by hand wash.
