Description of the Product
This Enfield rifle was approved by the War Department for use in the British Empire in late 1853 and by 1867 1.5 million units had been manufactured. This muzzle-loaded musket rifle was widely used both in the Crimean War (1853-1856), one of the greatest European wars of the colonial period, in which Finns were also involved as part of the Russian armed forces, as well as in the American Civil War (1861-1865). At that time, the British Empire ruled vast colonial territories, so this rifle became known throughout the globe.
This rifle was sold in large quantities to America during the Civil War and was especially used by the Confederate infantry. The Confederacy bought more of this rifle than any other weapon. However both sides imported large quantities of European firearms and as an accurate and well made weapon 1853 Enfield musket-rifle was used by both Union and Confederate forces. In the American Civil War, this rifle was often called the "three-band model" because the barrel was attached to the stock with three metal bands.
The length of the weapon made it possible to be fired in two consecutive rows. The barrels of the gunmen at the back row passed the heads of the men in the front row, so there was no danger of shooting the guy standing in front, and the flames or the sound didn’t harm their own men. Effective joint shots and organized joint fronts were effective tactics at their time. The long weapon also allowed it to be used with a bayonet as a spear, as a defense when the cavalry attacked at close range.
- This gun is an exact replica of the original. The replica matches the original in size and weight. The mechanisms of the weapon are working. The weapon can be cocked and dry fired like a real one. The ramrod is not detachable. Due to the materials used, the mechanisms cannot withstand continuous cocking and firing for long periods.
- Genuine wood and cast metal has been used to make this replica weapon. Zamac differs from steel in many respects, so the structure of the gun does not withstand pressure, it cannot be used to fire bullets, nor can it be converted to a functional weapon by any means.
- Replica guns such as this do not require permits in Finland, nor in many other countries. However, since the gun looks real, it should not be carried in public.
- A replica gun is perfect for historical re-enactment, on a theater stage, in film productions, for collectors of historical memorabilia, and as decoration.
