About Flags

The exact origins of flags is unknown to this day, however symbols similar to flags have been carried since 11,000 BCE. Flags have been used all over the world, from China to Egypt and Ancient Greece.

The usage of flags gained popularity, when silk started to get transported from Asia during Medieval Time. With the development of heraldry, identifying flags, such as coat of arms and ruler flags were invented. Later the identifying flags were used in ships as well, which in turn gave origins to new iconic flags such as the pirate flag Jolly Roger.

When rulers became less relevant to the country’s identity, country flags were developed to accommodate the change.
