Could you introduce yourself to us?
My name is Jenny, I’m 24 years old and originally from Lappeenranta, Finland. I’m currently in my second year studying graphic design at Xamk in Kouvola, so designing things like logos is definitely right up my alley. I’m grateful and honored to have won the logo contest– what a privilege!
How did you end up entering the competition?
I have my mom to thank for that one (so a big shoutout to her)! She follows Irongate Armory on social media and told me about the competition. She’s planning to attend the Old Town Festival in Lappeenranta later this spring, where people who dress in 1700s clothing get a free entry. Since she’s the reason I entered the contest in the first place, she’s definitely getting a share of the prize (a beautiful outfit for the festival)! And now that I won the contest, I´m kind of tempted to visit the festival too!
What’s your relationship with history?
A lot of my creative inspiration comes from historical art and architecture – especially the Gothic period. I also enjoy metal detecting, which I’ve been able to do as a hobby together with my mother and her partner. It’s such a cool way to connect with the past; the objects you find can tell so much about the people who lived there and how they lived.
To be completely honest, I haven’t been super involved in historical hobbies or reenactment, but getting to know Irongate Armory through this competition has sparked my interest. History is fascinating – and sometimes I wish our modern digital world had a bit more of the style and color of the past!
