Practicality and culture were the most significant factors in Viking Age fashion. Clothing was primarily made from natural fibers such as wool, linen, and leather. It was essential for garments to withstand wear and tear as long as possible and keep the wearer warm in the often cold Nordic conditions.
Tunics and tunic dresses with embroidered decorative patterns, varying in length, were commonly worn by individuals of all genders. Cloaks provided additional protection and warmth in chilly weather. A typical women’s outfit also included an apron dress adorned with brooches at each shoulder.
