Description of the Product
This dagger–pistol is a replica of an 18th-century French combination weapon, where a flintlock pistol and a dagger were merged into a single versatile weapon. It reflects a period when reloading firearms was extremely slow, and in the chaos of battle there was rarely time to fire more than once. After a single shot, combat typically shifted immediately to swords, sabres and axes as engagement moved into close quarter fighting.
During this era, a wide range of experimental hybrid weapons were developed, including combinations like this dagger and pistol. In its time, it would have been considered a kind of “high-tech” specialty weapon—something that could surprise an opponent at close range or provide a final defensive shot even after melee combat had begun.
Today, this replica serves as an excellent display and collector’s piece, particularly suited for 18th-century pirates, highwaymen, or as a gentleman’s self-defense-themed prop. This weapon integrates naturally into costumes, stage productions, photography, and film projects where a visually convincing but safe historical weapon is needed. The blade is blunt and this piece is not designed for any form of practical use.
- Period hybrid weapon combining a single-shot pistol with a dagger in one design
- Would have suited pirates, highwaymen, or personal self-defense in its time
- Can be cocked and dry-fired like a real weapon, but repeated use will eventually wear the mechanism due to its construction material.
- Made from cast metal (zamak) and real wood
- The zamak alloy and construction differ significantly from steel; it cannot withstand firing pressure. This is non-functional as a firearm, and cannot be converted into one. The dagger blade is also cast metal and not suitable for actual use. This piece is intended strictly as a decorative costume accessory, not for practical use.
- Decorative replica firearms are legal to own in Finland and many other countries without a license, but due to their realistic appearance they should not be displayed in public.
- Ideal for historical reenactment, theatre stages, film and video productions, collectors, and decorative display.
