Briquet is a typical infantry saber used in the times of Napoleonic Wars in the end of 18th century and in the beginning of 19th century. These sabers were used by both infantry and cavalry in Europe as well as in America. Cavalry armed with sabers was an effective weapon and still commonly used in the beginning of 19th century. Saber wielding cavalry was used up to First World War. After First World War swords have gradually become just ceremonial symbols in warfare.
