Description of the Product
According to the stories, Wyatt Earp, the legendary Wild West law enforcement officer, carried this long-barrelled "Buntline Special" with him e.g. during the Dodge City peace talks. The "Buntline Special" version was also seen in the hands of Kurt Russell in the 1993 film Tombstone (where he played Wyatt Earp), which tells the story of the Earp brothers' struggle as border sheriffs, based on true events.
Wyatt Earp gained his reputation as an uncompromising, incorruptible, and fearless law enforcement officer in the border town of Tombstone in Arizona, near the Mexican border. Wyatt Earp was involved in a rare real-life battle, like a scripted Western film, in which a group of law enforcement officers encountered with guns blazing, a band of robbers who terrorized the city. Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Virgil Earp, and Morgan Earp encountered a band of robbers in 1881 in the Battle of O.K. Corrall. After just 30 seconds of bullet rain, Wyatt Earp was the only participant who survived scratch free, with several outlaws losing their lives. Unfortunately, this most famous battle in the Wild West did not definitively settle the score between law enforcement and the cowboy gang, and Wyatt Earp lost one of his brothers in the months that followed, with the other seriously wounded after the revenge spiral began. Wyatt Earp himself ended up on the arrest list after taking the law into his own hands after his brother’s loss. He embarked on a vengeance spree with a sheriff star on his chest, shooting the bandit cowboys he suspected of murdering his brother. Despite several battles, Wyatt Earp was never even injured, which raised his reputation even before films, books, etc. were made on the subject.
This single-action military revolver is also known as SAA (Single Action Army), Colt M1873, Peacemaker Widowmaker, Frontier and Equalizer. The Peacemaker is a six-shooter, meaning it has a revolving cylinder which holds six cartridges. When the hammer is drawn to full cock, the cylinder rotates and places the next bullet into place between the barrel and the hammer. After each shot, the hammer must be manually cocked before firing again.
This revolver was designed by Samuel Colt in 1872, and the U.S. military adopted the pistol as standard issue in 1873. Although the revolver was designed to serve in U.S. military use, a large number of American civilians acquired their own within a few years. The gun was carried by ranchers, law enforcement and outlaws alike, and quickly became a Wild West classic. Because this revolver used ammunition of the same caliber as the Winchester rifle, the two grew in popularity together.
The Peacemaker eventually rose to its current popularity after the film industry took to it. Millions saw this mystified revolver dispense justice in the hands of John Wayne and Gary Cooper. The popularity of the revolver was so great that even Roosevelt wanted his own and Patton carried two Peacemakers with him.
This popular single-action military revolver has since been available in more than 30 different versions with different barrels and calibers. The different versions are externally, in general, very similar. This version has blackened and brass colored metal parts and faux-ivory (plastic) grips.
If you want to stage a more authentic situation, for example on a theater stage, you can use normal plastic caps, familiar from cap guns into the separately sold Firing Cap Bullets for Peacemaker Revolvers # 49. When the trigger is pulled, the striker strikes the cap and you get a small bang and puff of smoke.
- This gun is an exact replica of the original. The replica matches the original in size and weight, and the mechanisms of the weapon are working. The weapon can be cocked and dry fired like a real one. Due to the materials used, the mechanisms cannot withstand continuous cocking and firing for long periods.
- Cast metal has been used to make this replica weapon. The handle plates are ivory imitation plastic. Zamac differs from steel in many respects, so the structure of the gun does not withstand pressure, it cannot be used to fire bullets, nor can it be converted to a functional weapon by any means.
- Replica guns such as this do not require permits in Finland, nor in many other countries. However, since the gun looks real, it should not be carried in public.
- A replica gun is perfect for historical re-enactment, on a theater stage, in film productions, for collectors of historical memorabilia, and as decoration.
- Works with Revolver Decorative Cartridge # 50 and Firing Cap Bullets for Peacemaker Revolvers # 49. The cartridges can be ejected from the cylinder by pulling the ejector.
