The brooch is decorated with a famous Viking style, called "Borre". Brooch depicts animal heads, serpentine braided ribbons and a cross. It is a good representation of time period of a cultural change from paganism towards Christianity with the mixed elements of both faiths.
The Borre style is particularly characterized by mirror-symmetrical motifs, which are often expressed in braided ribbon ornamentation, such as ring chains and pretzel knots, where several mythical creatures are often connected with geometric knot formations. It was most popular during 9th-10th century.
