Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950’s. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.

Gimli, son of Glóin, was the representative of Dwarves at the Council of Elrond. After the One Ring proved too tough to be smashed with an axe, he became a member of the Fellowship of the Ring to help Frodo on his quest. Years earlier Gimlis father Glóin had taken part in Thorin’s quest to the Lonely Mountain, as had Frodos uncle Bilbo. Gimli struck an unlikely friendship with Legolas the Elf during the Fellowships journey through the Mines of Moria, Lothlórien, and onwards. In Lothlórien Gimli got from Galadriel a gift of three of her golden hairs, echoing her refusal millennia ago to grant one to Fëanor, the maker of the Silmarils and the greatest Elf ever. Once Merry and Pippin were taken prisoner, Gimli helped in tracking them toward Isengard. The dwarven battlecy Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd aimênu! (Axes of the Dwarves! Dwarves are upon you!) rang in Hornburg, when Gimli got to use his axe at the Battle of Helms Deep against the Uruk-hai of Saruman, felling 42 of them, one more than Legolas. After the War of the Ring Gimli was said to have sailed to Valinor with Legolas, becoming the only Dwarf ever to be permitted to the Undying Lands.

Dwarves, Gimli included, carried many types of axes, and this hefty Bearded Axe is an excellent example of one. The axes have each have a different practical use, but they also are stunning pieces of Dwarven design and art.  At almost 3 kilograms, this Bearded Axe definitely requires the strength of a Dwarf to carry and use. This authentically detailed collectible is an officially licensed reproduction of the axe wielded by Gimli in The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. United Cutlery has meticulously recreated the axe using only the finest grade materials. Close attention to detail was a top priority. The blade is made of tool steel and the engraved Dwarvish decorations are brass. The weathered steel finish gives it a battle-worn appearance. The axe comes with a display plaque with a matching motif.
