Plume/Crista for Roman helmet

Description of the Product

The red crista, made of real horsehair, was easily seen on the battlefield. This way, even if there was a lot of chaos and noise during battle, it was always clear to all legionaries who is in charge. Clear command structure and discipline were important parts why Roman armies were so effective and were able to conquer and hold a vast empire.

The crista was reserved for Roman soldiers vested with special command within a cohort such as Centurions and Optiones, seconds-in-command below the centurions. In modern terms these positions would perhaps be called officers and NCOs (non-commissioned officers) or XOs (executive officers). The Pluma/Crista comes with a brass crest holder for proper fitting to your helmet.

The plume worn across the helmet left to right was customary for the Roman Centurio soldier.
