James Bowie made a legend of himself and his knife in a fierce battle on the banks of the Mississippi in 1827. Bowie excelled in handling his knife and even when severely wounded was able to kill several of his adversaries in the aftermath of a duel-by-pistols gone awry. He emerged victorious, albeit with both gunshot wounds as well as sword wound. A legend was born, and everyone across America wanted the same type of knife used by Bowie. Soon a Bowie-knife could be spotted on the sides of both congressmen and ruffians. These authentic Bowie knifes are a piece of American history. Supremely functional and solid, this high carbon steel blade comes sharpened at the factory and will last for years even in active use.

Early bowie knives were large, tough and sharp. Despite the size of this bowie, the overall weight is only half kilogram. But don’t let the weight fool you; this is a strong cutter that holds the edge well. The blade has a needle point. Hardwood grip and brass guard. Brass strip on spine is an intentional device designed to catch the edge of an attacker’s blade during a parry. Comes with a hand stitched dark brown leather sheath with belt loop. This knife is hand forged and sharpened by Windlass Steelcrafts.

The original piece is from approximately 1830. This is a beautiful and functional replica for reenactment that can be used just as easily as a tool for example for camping and hiking.
