Practice makes perfect, and so it is with sword-fighting skills. Before reaching levels of excellence, however, that practice should be conducted in relative safety. Practice weapons of all kinds always have to balance realism with safety. If the weapon is too realistic it will function like the real weapon and there is a risk of serious and unnecessary injury. However if the weapon is too soft and bendy, it will be useless as a training tool as it will move and act differently from the real deal.

Cold Steel's solution to these dilemmas was to design a line of synthetic substitutes that are low in price and impervious to the elements. The Cold Steel line of training weapons are made of the heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicate their real counterparts in length, size and feel. While they are not quite as rigid as wood, they have the winning advantages of being virtually unbreakable, remarkably stiff and cut resistant.

The edges are rounded and the point dull. For sufficient realism, however, the blade has to be firm enough, and not wobble. Therefore even a synthetic blade might cause injury, especially to the face or the eyes, so appropriate protection must be utilized at all times when using this training sword.

This one-handed waster has been carefully fashioned to look as realistic as possible, so it can be effectively used in solo practice, training drills, disarm drills, and demonstrations, or any other activity where you want a reasonably close approximation of realism but not the extreme danger and risk associated with an actual sword. The handle is textured for a good grip. This trainer is affordable, functional and very durable. The guard can be replaced if and when needed. The sword is shipped unassembled, the guard and the retaining ring simply need to be slipped into place.
