Description of the Product

This lance head, designed by Paul Chen, is an accurate replication of the British 1868 pattern. However this lance can be used in historical reenactment of earlier periods as well, as lance heads didn't change very much over the years. These lances were used with great effect by the cavalry until the end of the 19th century and still carried today on ceremonial occasions by some units of the British Army and the Canadian Mounted Police.

The use of lances as a weapon dates back to ancient times, with evidence of their use by cavalry soldiers in the armies of the Persians, Greeks, and Romans. The lance was particularly popular among medieval knights, who used it as their primary weapon in jousting tournaments and on the battlefield. The first recorded use of the lance in European warfare dates back to the 9th century, when it was used by Frankish cavalry soldiers under the rule of Charlemagne. The last uses of lances in battle settings were seen during WWI as some cavalry units continued to carry lances as a secondary weapon, along with their primary firearms.
