Alemannic belt

Description of the Product

This early medieval belt is based on an original grave find from Niederstotzingen, modern day Germany. The gravefind was dated to the late 6th or early 7th C CE, and unearthed Alemannic warriors and noblemen with their treasures. The buckle and strap end were part of a Merovingian bridle. The Alemanni were a Germanic tribe, who during the Migration Period setteled on the Rhine and warred with the Romans. They were eventually defeated by the Merovingian king Clovis I and incorporated into the Frankish Empire, but the name of the tribe still gives Germany its name in many languages, such as l'Allemagne in French and Alemania in Spanish.

This replica of an early medieval belt with a historical buckle and strap end is 2 cm wide and made of high-quality vegetable tanned cowhide. The belt is 165 cm long, and with the premade holes it fits a circumference of about 92 - 107 cm. Due to its length, the belt is perfect for many wearers, but the circumference can be easily reduced or enlarged with a hole punch. The length of the Alemannic belt allows it to be worn knotted over the buckle, with the end tail hanging down from the waist.
