With the discovery of metal, spears became much more effective. In just about all cultures metal butt caps were used to protect the base of the shaft, keep it from splintering and to add balance to the overall weapon. This butt cap is generic and does not represent any one specific time or place. Can be used historically for any spear younger than the beginning of the Iron Age. Well made of mild steel. Butt cap gives an improved appearance and protection as well as balancing the spear. Ready to mount. Fits in a 30mm (1 1/5”) diameter shaft.
