Description of the Product
Since 1943 these Kukris have been made by one government contractor; Windlass Steelcrafts. The original, official military issue! Hand forged from high carbon steel. A must for outdoor activities that require chopping and cutting, from gardening to camping.
These kukris were used with devastating effectiveness by the famous Nepalese Gurkhas in the Siege of Delhi in 1857, in the trenches of WWI France, throughout the New Guinea jungle in WWII, and with distinction in the Falkland Islands. Kukri is a formidable weapon but also excellent all-round tool used traditionally in northern India and Nepal. This excellent traditional tool used for example in construction work has since spread all over the world and is nowadays used as likely by a trekker as in a combat unit. As a chopper and cutter a kukri is similar to large bowie knives and small hand hatchets. It is more powerfull that regular-sized knives but is more easily transported and carried than a large axe.
The blade is an impressive 6.3mm thick with deep grooves and the traditional religious notch. Takes a good, sharp edge. Scale tang. Traditional, native hardwood handle. Standard metal butt plate. Genuine military issue to Gurkha Regiments in India. This Gurkha regimental kukri comes with two accessory knives. There might be slight variation in the size and blade shape of these small accessory knives. The other accessory knife has traditionally been left blunt, to be used for example as a fire steel, and the other one is sharper, to be used for example in skinning, eating or other small tasks. The wooden scabbard wrapped in leather has a belt loop to hang your knife from your belt or rucksack. The fit of the kukri and scabbard can vary, so if the scabbard is too loose, it can be tightened by glueing a piece of leather inside the mouth of the scabbard.

Upea kappale kokoelmaan tai vaikka vesurin korvikkeeksi.

Fit and finish were actually much better than in the pictures. For display purposes it is fine as it is. If you attend to use it, the bulky shaped handle will benefit from reshaping closer to the original design (as in the blueprint attached). The blade edge also needs a bit reshaping. There is a tourist grade secondary bevel, that is kinda sharp. If you grind it to single bevel, it will be much better. As for the sheath, materials are ok and it does its job. When the kukri is sheated, the sheat goes way out of balance, as the hanger is a bit too low. This can also be fixed with some modifications. Summa summarum: Good piece for the price. Some modding is needed, if you will seriously use it.
