Puukko is a smallish traditional Finnish general purpose knife-style with a single curved cutting edge and a flat spine. This is a very common knife-style in Scandinavia used till nowadays that has it's roots in Viking Age knives. This size and shape is excellent for all-purpose knife in the harsh Nordic where a good knife was crucial survival tool in the ancient times, carried with you everyday. The puukko-knife can be used to prepare food, as a tool in bushcrafting and building (still the no:1 tool for craftsmen in the Nordic), as a hunting knife and also to carve soft northern wood types. Puukko is excellent when shaving small tinder pieces for fire-making purposes and when cleaning fishers' and hunters' catches.

It's quite common to place your thumb on to the flat spine of puukko when extra precision or force is needed for example when whittling and carving. This brings most of the shortish blade edge to your direct control. In ancient times it was typical that all or most everyday goods were made at home using the tools you happened to have, for example bowls and spoons were carved.

This is a good utility knife for all Iron Age Northern European people and stylistically knives like this were used all the way from Early Middle Ages till nowadays. As a very general knife stylistically, with all natural wood-and-bone handle this knife could be from almost any time period. Good size for chores and also self defense when needed. Good for slicing, cutting and whittling.
