Step back in time with these Iron Age Sandals, a classic style worn throughout Europe already at least two millennia ago, and which remained in used from Roman times up to the late Middle Ages. The sandals are crafted from full leather for durability and historical accuracy.

Sandals like these were a popular shoe style for the common people; as the construction was fairly simple they could be made at home without an excessive amount of experience or tools. Sandals like these consist of only one piece of leather, which wraps around the foot, so there’s no need for seams. The leather is cut so that the tabs or pleats which form the upper are gathered around the toes. Later an additional outer sole could be added for durability and comfort, like in our version. Many surviving Iron Age shoes show quite elaborate cut-out ornaments on the sides, but our model has been left plain so they are appropriate for many different timeperiods.

These sandals have a leather strap lacing which threads through the front of the shoe for an individual and secure fit. There is also lacing at the heel, which allows for a better fit depending if you are using the sandals with a woolen sock or just on your bare feet. The sole is soft, so the sandals are ideal for dancing and to be worn around the campfire, but if you are planning on crossing mountainous regions or using them in rougher outdoor terrain, the soft sole might require further external reinforcing.
