Late Roman Belt

This beautiful belt from late antiquity has a strap end and a belt buckle which are based on a grave find from 4^th C  Monceau-le-Neuf in Gaul, modern day France.  The Roman-Germanic belt fittings illustrate the use of Germanic warriors in Roman Gaul towards the end of the Western Roman Empire.

This Roman belt buckle has a fitting plate which is attached with small rivets, instead of a movable loop as is usual in other finds from this period. The belt has decorative studs in the form of a triskelion. Triskelions, triple spirals, have been used since the Neolithic age, and they remained in use in late antiquity and beyond.

This late Roman leather belt is 2 cm wide, and is available in brown with brass colored buckles made of zamac. The total length of the belt is 165 cm, and with the pre-made holes it fits a waist circumference of 92 - 107 cm. Due to its generous length, the belt is perfect for most wearers, but the circumference can be easily reduced or enlarged with a hole punch. The excess length is worn wrapped behind the buckle and hanging decoratively downwards.
