Takeda Shingen was a powerful daimyo (warlord) in the Sengoku period of Japan, ruling over the Kai Province. The Sengoku period was a tumultuous era in Japanese history characterized by continuous warfare, political instability, shifting alliances and widespread chaos. During this time, the country was fragmented, with numerous regional daimyo warlords vying for power. Takeda Shingen was born in 1521, he was a member of the Takeda clan and became known for his exceptional military strategies and leadership. Shingen was a formidable tactician, often called the "Tiger of Kai," and played a significant role in the complex power struggles and territorial wars of the era. His governance focused on both military expansion and internal development, implementing efficient administrative reforms to strengthen his domain.

Takeda Shingen is particularly renowned for his battles against rival clans, especially his prolonged conflict with Uesugi Kenshin, known as the Battles of Kawanakajima. These engagements are among the most famous samurai battles in Japanese history, highlighting Shingen's strategic prowess and warrior ethos. Additionally, he is remembered for his innovative use of cavalry and his emphasis on the principles of Sun Tzu's "The Art of War," which influenced his approach to warfare and governance. Shingen's legacy endures as a symbol of samurai honor, strategic brilliance, and regional power during Japan's feudal period.

These four helmets in our selection replicate the helmets, masks and ornaments of four legendary Japanese samurai Takeda Shingen, Oda Nobunaga, Daisho Kage and Date Masamune. These museum-quality reproductions of these archaeological treasures have been hand crafted by the metalsmiths of Hanwei with exacting attention to detail.

This helmet worn by the legendary Takeda Shingen is a masterpiece of detail and functionality. Made from 18 gauge steel (1,27 mm thick) with bright red finish, it is adorned with brass accents and features traditionally articulated armor plates tied with thick black cotton cords. The helmet is fully wearable and includes a padded, lined interior for comfort.

A highlight of this piece is the removable Menpo face guard, complete with a genuine horse hair mustache. The Mempo is attached to the helmet by knotting it into position with the thick helmet cords. Oni Demon with pointy horns is made of solid brass with antique finish and is also removable.  Plume on top the the helmet is made of genuine horsehair. The helmet comes with a custom wooden display stand for showcasing.
