Description of the Product

Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950โ€™s. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.

When the island of Nรบmenรณr sank into the waves, some Faithfuls, led by Elendil, were able to escape to Middle-earth, bringing with them among other heirlooms Narsil, a sword forged in the deeps of time by the great Dwarven-smith Telchar. Narsil, meaning red and white flame, shone with the light of the Sun and the Moon, the enemies of darkness.

In Middle-earth the Men of Nรบmenรณr, led by Elendil, were joined by Gil-galad, the High King of the Noldor, creating theย Last Alliance of Elves and Menย in order to defeat the evil of Sauron and his legions of orcs. The Alliance eventually marched on Mordor, but they were not joined by the Men of the Mountains, who broke their oath and refused to fight, and were thus cursed by Elendilโ€™s son Isildur. The army of the Last Alliance pushed into Mordor, Elendil carrying Narsil in battle. On the slopes of Mount Doom both Gil-galad and Elendil were slain, and Narsil was broken. Isildur managed to use a shard of the sword to cut off the One Ring from Sauronโ€™s hand, marking the end of the Second Age. Isildur failed to destroy the One Ring once and for all, but took it, as well as the shards of Narsil, as heirlooms. The shards were saved and kept in Rivendell for millennia, and would not be reforged until the One Ring was found again.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

Eventually at the end of the Third Age the shards of Narsil were passed down to Aragorn son of Arathorn, the heir to the Kingdom of Gondor and Arnor, an heir of Isildur, Dรบnadan, a descendant of the Men of Nรบmeror. The Dรบnedain had fought against Sauron in the War of the Last Alliance, but little by little through wars and division their number in the North was reduced to wandering Rangers. Aragorn too was a Ranger, and in the Shire and in Bree, where his noble lineage was not known, he was called Strider. When time was ready and he finally accepted his fate as king, then the Sword That Was Broken was reforged by the Elven smiths of Rivendell as Andรบril, the Flame of the West. After the War of the Ring, when Sauron had been defeated, Aragorn was crowned King Elessar.

This authentically detailed collectible is an officially licensed reproduction of the actual filming prop used in the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Anduril is a straight double-edged longsword with a straight crossguard and an elongated pommel. The defining feature of the sword are the triangular cut-outs in the pommel and ends of the crossguard. The blade has an inscription on both sides in Quenya, written in the runes of Eregion, that says: Anar. Nรกnyรซ Andรบril i nรฉ Narsil i macil Elendilo. Lercuvanten i mรณli Mordรณrรซo. Isil. (Sun. I am Andรบril which was Narsil, the sword of Elendil. Let the thralls of Mordor flee me. Moon.)ย  United Cutlery has meticulously recreated the prop sword, which was originally designed by John Howe, using the finest grade materials and craftsmanship. Close attention to detail was a top priority. The blade is crafted of 420 stainless steel. The grip is wrapped in genuine leather and the solid metal crossguard and pommel have gold-plated accents.

The stainless steel blade is easy to care for, and the sword is ideal as a decoration, as part of a costume, and as a collectible. The material is not suitable for fencing or cutting practice. This item includes a matching wooden display plaque with the symbols of the Kingdom of Gondor, and a certificate of authenticity.
