Description of the Product

Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950โ€™s. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.

Glamdring was an Elven sword from the legendary city of Gondolin, made by High Elves in the First Age. As an elvish blade, it shines a cold blue light if Orcs are near, just like Sting and Orcrist do. Having been lost for over 6000 years, the swords first appear in the Hobbit when Thorin Oakenshield, Gandalf and Bilbo find them in a troll cave. Gandalf carries Glamdring with him to their quest to the Lonely Mountain, and it remains as his weapon throughout his time in Middle-Earth, from slaying the Goblin King to defending the Fellowship in the Mines of Moria from the Balrog, and all throughout the War of the Ring.

The name Glamdring means the foe-hammer, although the Orcs knew it as Beater. Elrond translated the runic inscription on the guard, revealing that the sword was once forged for Turgon, King of the Hidden City of Gondolin, and the High King of the Noldor. Turgon was the most feared enemy of Morgoth, who refused to abandon Gondolin when it fell, and defended the last Tower of the King until dragons crushed it and the king himself. The inscription is in Sindarin, Turgon aran Gondolin tortha gar a matha i vegil Glamdring gรปd dae[dhe]lo[th], dam an Glamhoth. And the translation is:ย Turgon, king of Gondolin, wields, has and holds the sword Glamdring, foe of Morgoth's realm, hammer to the Orcs.ย

This authentically detailed collectible is an officially licensed reproduction of the sword designed by Weta Workshop and wielded by Gandalf inย The Lord of the Ringsย movie trilogy. United Cutlery has meticulously recreated the actual prop sword using the finest grade materials and craftsmanship. Close attention to detail was a top priority. Measuringย  121 cm overall, this formidable sword has a tempered 420 stainless steel blade. The hilt parts are solid metal, and the grip is wrapped in genuine leather. The stainless steel blade is easy to care for, and the sword is ideal as a decoration, as part of a costume, and as a collectible. The material is not suitable for fencing or cutting practice. This item includes a matching wooden display plaque and a certificate of authenticity.
