Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950’s. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.

Sting is a short sword, almost just a knife, (if not a letter opener), from the legendary city of Gondolin, made by High Elves during the First Age. As an elvish blade, it shines a cold light if orcs are near. It first appears in the Hobbit when Bilbo Baggins finds it in a troll cave, and he carries it with him throughout his quest to the Lonely Mountain and back again to the Shire. The sword saves Bilbo’s life in a fight against giant spiders in Mirkwood, which prompts him to call the weapon Sting. Sixty years later, Bilbo gives Sting to his nephew Frodo, to serve him on his quest across Middle-earth to cast the One Ring back into the fires of Mount Doom, whence it came from, to destroy it once and for all. On the long journey Sting again proves excellent against deadly spiders, as Sam is able to impale the foul creature Shelob with it.

On the blade and the guard there are Tengwar-runes  engraved in Sindarin (the language of the Grey Elves): Maegnas aen estar nín - dagnir in yngyl im , “Sting is my name; I am the spider's bane.”

The stainless steel blade is easy to care for, and the sword is ideal as a decoration, as part of a costume, and as a collectible. The material is not suitable for fencing or cutting practice. This item includes a matching wooden display plaque and a certificate of authenticity.

Even if this sword will just be an heirloom on a wall, to be gazed at whilst sitting comfortably with good food and good friends, safe in your own home, it will remind you that there is still good in this world worth fighting for.
