The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. Arwen Undómiel, Evenstar, was a half-elven who married Aragorn, a mortal, rejecting the immortality of Elves. The Evenstar is a white gem like a star, which Arwen wears on a silver chain. It symbolizes the immortality of elves, and her love for Aragorn. She is willing to forsake immortal life to share one lifetime with Aragorn, rather than face all the ages of the world alone. As a sign of them being bound together she gifts the pendant to Aragorn, “It is mine to give to whom I will, like my heart.” In the book, Arwen gifts the pendant to Frodo, so that he can take her place and sail to the West.
