Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950’s. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.

Sauron was a Maia, a lesser spirit sent to aid the higher spirits (Valar) on Arda, much like Gandalf, Saruman and Radagast, and the Balrogs were. Sauron had originally worked with Aulë as s smith, but his thirst for power and control was such that instead he joined Morgoth, the greatest of all the Ainur. Once in Middle-earth, Morgoth built the fortress of Angband and Sauron was his lieutenant. For many ages Morgoth waged war and tried to exert dominion over Middle-earth, but eventually he was banished from Time and Space into the Timeless Void. His expulsion marked the end of the First Age. After Morgoth’s banishment Sauron, his servant and heir, stepped in and continued the corruption of anyone willing to listen, using numerous guises. He deceived the Elves and as they forged the Rings of Power, in secret he created the One Ring to rule them all, becoming the Lord of the Rings. Eventually Sauron began to claim he was Morgoth returned, the King of Kings. The Men of Númenor he corrupted so that the whole island was eventually drowned. The spirit of Sauron escaped the Downfall of Númenor to Mordor in Middle-earth, but he was no longer able to take on a fair form, ruling from then on only through terror and force.

At the end of the Second Age Sauron’s forces faced the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, rallied by Gil-galad, the Elven-king, and Elendil, the King of the Númenoreans. After a long siege of Barad-dûr Sauron finally left his fortress and emerged on the battlefield in a blackened steel armor, wearing a terrifying helmet. With every swing of his mace, Sauron crushed his foes, sending intimidation and fear throughout the ranks of all who dared stand against him. Both Gil-galad and Elendil met their end that day. On one finger Sauron wore the source of all his power, The One Ring.

This stunning piece is a 1:2 scale reproduction of the blackened steel war helmet worn by the Dark Lord Sauron in the prologue of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.  This 1:2 scale polyresin replica is 40 cm tall. The surface has been weathered using intaglio-etched sculpting and blackened steel coloring that precisely match the original movie prop. The helmet comes with a poly-stone display stand that has been sculpted in the same style. A certificate of authenticity is included.
