Throughout history, as an instrument of justice, truth, equality and firmness, swords have been used at every great event and have become imbued with great symbolism. For this reason, Freemasons use swords in all their ceremonies. Freemasonry is an organization of fraternities, dedicating itself to understanding of truth, study of ethics and the practice of solidarity, working for the material and moral improvement of humanity. Although officially born in Western Europe during the late 17th and early 18th C, they draw their heritage all the way from the builders and architects of the Temple of Solomon some 3000 years ago, and base their rituals on those of medieval knighthoods.

This sword contains many Masonic symbols: the square and compasses, the plumb line and the hammer, the sacred book and the eye of the Supreme Being, and the five-pointed star inscribed with the capital "G". The G stands for the Great Architect or Geometry, the science which the ancients believed most revealed the glory of God and His works in the heavens. In American lodges G also stands for God. The square symbolizes things of the earth, honor, integrity, truthfulness, and how we should relate to this world and the people in it. The compass symbolizes things of the spirit, and the importance of a good and well-developed spiritual life, the importance of self-control.

As a symbol the masonic sword represents not the typical destructive nature of a sword, but instead the pursuit of self-construction, dedication to self-improvement and understanding of the individual. The blade has deep etched decorations, and the gold-coloured hilt has silver fittings. The grip is decorated with green velvet for a luxurious feel.

The Masonic sword is available in three sizes: this full sized version, as well as a smaller 75 cm version and as a letter opener.

The stainless steel blade is easy to care for, and the sword is ideal as a decoration, as part of a costume, as a collectible and suitable for light cutting practice. The material is not suitable for steel-on-steel fencing or heavy cutting practice. No sheath included.
