Description of the Product
A centurion was the commander of a centuria, a military unit of around 80 legionaries in the Roman army during classical antiquity. A centurion was elected or promoted from the common ranks to his position. In a Roman legion, centuries were grouped into cohorts. Cohort consisted from six centuriae so total 480 legionaries and was the standard tactical military unit of the Roman army. Cohorts didn’t have a permanent commander but was commanded by the most experienced centurion of the six in one cohort. Each centurion was the leader of his own centuria but could have other duties beyond his own centuria, like for example commanding the whole cohort.
The first centuria of the first cohort in the whole legion was led by a centurion called the primus pilus. He was the most senior centurion in the legion and its third-in-command. Primus pilus was also advisor to the legate, participated in war councils and was highly sought after position, well paid and entitled this previously common soldier to become part of the equestrian class, nobility.
Centurions led and fought on the battle fronts, like the common legionaries, and needed good, functional swords but as centurions were better paid they afforded a little better gear. Centurions also often had important roles in society. Reflecting this there are some additional decorations on this sword that distinguishes it from mere fighting tools.
This beautiful Roman gladius has a high carbon steel blade forged and tempered by hand. Truly worthy of a Roman officer. The handle, scabbard and blade are all antiqued/aged for a nice look. Includes a baldric for carrying the sword and wooden sheath wrapped in leather that is accented with metal details and decorations.

Helposti paras ja historiallisesti aidoin Gladius markkinoilla alle 500€ hintaluokassa, varsinkin kun keinotekoisen patinan poistaa ja terän teroittaa ja kiillottaa uudelleen. Tämä malli on ainakin muita Windlassin Gladius malleja valovuosia edellä historiallisessa tarkkuudessa, ilmeisesti Windlass on ottanut mitat museosta oikeasta Mainz tyylisestä Gladiuksesta

Hieno miekka. Juuri sellainen mitä hain ja miten tuotetta kuvataan. Tukevaa tekoa ja aidon Gladiuksen tuntuinen, vaikka en oikeaa roomalaista miekkaa ole koskaan kädessä pitänytkään. Ainoa poikkeus silloiseen kuvaukseen oli, ettei miekka ollut sivuilta terävä, mutta sen voi tarvittaessa teroittaa itse. Jos jotain negatiivista kaivaa niin miekan huotra hiukan väljä, mutta sen fiksasin itse laittamalla pari nahkasuikaletta huotran sisään, eikä ne näy mihinkään. Toimitus ja asiakaspalvelu oli 10/10.
