Description of the Product

These swords are designed to be the ultimate training tool. Developed by HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) practitioners for HEMA practitioners and giving the community the product they wanted. These swords behave like original steel swords but offer far greater safety than steel weapons. This increased safety, coupled with realism makes these affordable and durable synthetic swords the best training tool out there.

Messer simply means knife in German, and a Langes Messer is therefore a long knife. Their classification is not an exact science, but for this sword it means its grip is long enough for the sword to be used with two hands. As a single edged sword the Messer developed in later medieval times from its predecessor, the Falchion. The Messer guard has a normal cross guard, but with an additional quillion, called the nail, protruding from the middle. This nail gives the hand extra protection. Learning the Messer was an integral part of training in numerous schools of swordmanship in history.

The blades are stiff enough for fast swordplay but are constructed to flex in the last 1/3 towards the tip. This gives us a blade that can be used for thrusting (protection should ALWAYS be worn) without being whippy. The blade/tang joint (traditionally a weak point) is reinforced by a steel rod running along the full length of the handle. This also removes any flex in the handle traditionally associated with plastic training swords. Blade is manufactured from special Proline Xtreme blend of high-impact polymer.

The swords weigh about 2/3 of the weight of a real sword. This is designed to lower the impact of hits when sparring. This means that you need to protect yourself much lighter compared to the heavy protection needed when training with steel swords.

The guard is constructed from reinforced high impact plastic. The ball shaped quillons are designed for safety when sparring (large surface area = less chance of being impaled). The pommel is also constructed from high impact plastic. This makes it safer (compared to metal pommels) to do pommel strikes during sparring. A brass nut is moulded into the pommel to provide a tight and durable metal on metal joint to the tang.

The swords can be taken apart easily by unscrewing the pommel. This can be done in a few seconds without using any tools. This not only makes transporting them easy – it also allows you to easily customize your sword with our range of interchangeable parts.
