Description of the Product
Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950โs. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.
Orcrist was an Elven sword from the legendary city of Gondolin, made by High Elves in the First Age. As an elvish blade, it shines a cold blue light if Orcs are near, justย like Sting and Glamdring do. The swords first appear in the Hobbit when Thorin Oakenshield, Gandalf and Bilbo find the swords in a troll cave. Thorin carries Orcrist with him to his quest to the Lonely Mountain, and is eventually buried with it. Orcrist means goblin-cleaver in Sindarin, but the Orcs know the blade as Biter.
The two-pronged pommel is decorated with the heraldic symbol of the house of Ecthelion, an elf-lord who defended the Hidden City of Gondolin against thousands of orcs of Morgoth, and slayed Gothmog, the lord of Balrogs.
Orcrist is a single-edged sword with a half-guard. The blade is sharp and curved on one side, and straight along the spine, a design perfectly suited for slaying Orcs and Goblins. There is a runic Sindarin inscription running along both sides of the blade "NAGOL E-LYG" meaning "Tooth of-Snake (or dragon)โ. To emphasize the serpentine quality of the weapon the hilt is made of a dragon's tooth.
This faithfully detailed replica is a reproduction of the actual filming prop created by Weta Workshop in New Zealand and used in theย The Hobbit movie trilogy. United Cutlery has meticulously recreated this sword using highest quality materials and paying attention to the accuracy of all details. The sword is almost one meter long. The runic inscription is etched on the stainless steel blade. The hilt is made of solid metal parts, imitation gemstones and an acrylic resin grip cast from the original prop. The stainless steel blade is easy to care for, and the sword is ideal as a decoration, as part of a costume, and as a collectible. The material is not suitable for fencing or cutting practice. The sword comes with a wooden wall display with a silkscreen motif, as well as a certificate of authenticity.
