Viking Leg Wrap Hooks “Raven”

Description of the Product

The raven has been a recurring element in human myths and legends throughout the time. It was a sacred animal to the northern Germanic tribes, and early Celts believed that the raven was a messenger of the Otherworld. The most famous sacred ravens were perhaps Hugin (Thought) and Munin (Memory), who were the faithful companions of the Norse god Odin.

These leg wrap hooks are a replica of calf wrap hooks in the shape of two ravens found in a Viking settlement in Chernigov, Ukraine. They date to the 10th century. Almost identical raven shaped originals has also been found in Gotland, Sweden.

Leg wraps, and hence leg wrap hooks, were worn by all genders alike in the Viking era and can be found in the areas where Rus travelled (Vikings traveling via rivers to the east), as well as in England and all over Scandinavia.

The three small eyelets allow the leg wrap hook to be easily hand sewn onto the top of your leg wrap. The hooks secures your leg wraps in place with its long needle/hook.

These leg wrap hooks are made of high-quality bronze, and they are sold as a pair.
