Rus Viking Kaftan Clasps

Description of the Product

During the Viking age, people used different types of brooches and clasps to close their clothing. These clasps were used by the eastern vikings, also called Kievan Rus, in the 10th century.

The original clasp of this replica was found in the richly decorated tomb of a Rus warrior in Chernigov, Ukraine. The historical kaftan clasp is now in the State Historical Museum in Moscow.

The diamond shaped clasps are typical designs of the Kievan Rus, especially Varangians, and also the Magyar region. These kaftan clasps are excellent for closing kaftan or other Viking garments, but can also be used just as well as a cloak clasp.

Using the four small eyelets on the sides, the kaftan clasps are simply sewn onto the garment. The clasps consists of two parts and both parts are sewn onto your garment you want to close with the clasps, one on the other side of the opening and the other clasp on the other side. These clasps are made of high quality bronze.
