Description of the Product
This type of bevors were common by end of the 15th Century. These bevors were a logical evolution in armor development. There is a clear improvement when knights and men-at-arms changed from a bascinet with a visor worn with mail aventail to protect throat to a combination of sallet with gorget. When wearing a sallet and bevor the throat is protected with a rigid steel plate instead of flexible mail. Thrusts at the upper chest and throat were deflected away instead of just mail protecting this vulnerable part.
A bevor is a piece of armor which protects the lower part of the face, as well as the throat and upper chest area. As a result of the rise in popularity of open helmets, bevors were in wide use from 1450 onwards for almost a hundred years. This combination of open helmet and bevor gives a rigid throat protection and yet it is versatile. When not needed, the bevor can be removed completely, or lowered to protect only the throat. In battle the upper part can be raised for maximum protection.
This bevor is made in central European style and it´s perfect for armors for 1480 to 1520.
