Description of the Product

Tanto is single edged Japanese dagger that is best known as a side arm carried by the Samurai during the Japanese Medieval Times. Samurai would carry as a part of his attire a long and a short blade tucked under his belt whether he was on a battlefield or strolling the streets during peace. With the longer Katana (sword) a shorter Wakizashi (short sword) or a Tanto (dagger) would be carried. This combination of two weapons was called Daisho and only a person belonging to Samurai-Class was allowed to carry it. Tanto alone was allowed to anyone in Feudal Japan as the knife is one of the oldest, most common and versatile all-purpose tools across all cultures and times.

Different style Tanto with blades of different style and shape and varying hilts can be found in Japanese history. Tanto in direct translation means just a short blade and this term covers basically any Japanese dagger or knife. The Tanto you see here in front of your eyes is of the most common design: short combat dagger that was easy to carry, conceal if needed and easy to use in hand-to-hand combat. Strong point for thrusts and enough width in the sharp blade for cuts.

The ever-popular Practical series Tanto gives the martial artist an opportunity to own and use a fully functional blade at the cost of an economy one. The 1566 high-carbon blade is forged and differentially hardened, using the same processes as in more expensive blades. The result is a blade that has edge with HRC60 hardness and back with HRC40 harness. The blade has an authentic and prominent hamon, temper line. The fittings and handle parts are all strongly built made to withstand the rigors of cutting exercises at the dojo. The Practical Katana and the Practical Wakizashi match this Tanto making a useful and economical samurai set.

Included is traditional black cloth bag to keep your dagger in pristine condition when in storage or while transporting. Made by Hanwei. Specs can vary slightly from piece to piece.
