Description of the Product

Throughout history, almost up to the present day, glass and metals have been expensive to manufacture, and therefore they’ve only been used for rare luxury items. The materials for everyday items came from nature, and through the millennia simple wooden vessels, like this one, have been common with the regular folk. Other materials were naturally also used. This wooden tankard is made of mango wood.

Wooden vessels have often been adorned with intricate engravings and embellishments. Ours has a World Tree embossed on it. The World Tree can be found in many old mythologies and legends as the most important structure the world is built upon. A World Tree can be found in Norse mythology (Yggdrasil), Finnish mythology (giant oak in Kalevala), Siberian beliefs, Mongolian mythology (spread by Genghis Khan when conquering the world), Native American beliefs, as well as Slavic, Baltic, Turkic, Chinese and Indian myths. Trees are still important to human life but long ago in our evolutionary history trees indeed were our whole world and made it possible for our species to live. Perhaps this old and distant memory is the reason why a giant world tree can be found in so many old myths as the explanation for the whole world, giving it support and boundaries.

A unique wooden tankard brings a glorious and authentic feel, from a noble banquet feast of the south to a stark northern guardhouse, all through the seven kingdoms, around a campfire, retelling the conquests of the day, or in a tavern. The tankard will suit perfectly for example Larp and historical reenactment of ancient times, Viking Age and the Middle Ages, and it can of course be used as a modern item in everyday use.

Mango wood as a material:

Mango tree is more known for its fruit rather than for its wood. However, mango trees can be converted to lumber once their fruit-bearing lifespan has finished, which makes it a sustainable and eco-friendly material. As this item is made of natural material, the grain pattern is unique in each item with varying patterns and color.

Care:

All-in-all mango requires very little maintenance and is naturally resistant to moisture. The inside of the tankard has a food-safe lacquer coating, to keep the tankard hygienic and from discoloring.
After use the best way to wash your tankard is to hand wash it with warm soapy water, rinse and dry. Do not wash in a dish-washer or leave it soaking in water. Do not microwave.
