German Sallet, 1480

Description of the Product

This helmet is an authentic copy of a late medieval German Sallet. This helmet is hand-made from 2 mm steel and it's battle-ready and fully usable in full contact re-enactment. The original helmet was probably made in Nuremberg, Germany, city that was well-known for their excellent armorers. The original helmet is dated around 1480 AD, but helmets like this were common from approx 1450–1500.

Sallet helmets were commonly used all over late medieval Europe, but were most common in Germany.

Sallet helmets were often, but not always, used with separate bevors protecting the throat and chin. From medieval artwork we can see that knights and other heavily armored men-at-arms wore Sallets with bevors, while archers and other lighter armored infantry used these helmets often without bevors. The bevor is sold separately. The piece shown in product pictures is Bevor with Leather Strap 1450-1520, but you can naturally use this helmet with other bevors also.
