Description of the Product
Musashi Elite Katana is named after one of the most renowned sword masters in Japanese history, Miyamoto Musashi. The sword is faithful to the original down to the famous double-ring iron tsuba. Musashi was a famous Samurai who lived during the early 17th Century and became a legend already when he was alive. Books, movies, comics and even TV-series have been made of Musashi’s adventures. Musashi fought in the biggest battles of his day, for example in the battle of Sekigahara that determined the fate of Japan for the next 250 years. Musashi roamed the land as a Ronin (a samurai without a master) sacrificing everything to perfecting his skills, fought countless duels with other famous Samurai never losing, set up a school to teach swordsmanship, developed a new style of fighting using two swords and wrote a combat strategy book at the end of his life that is still relevant and read today. Musashi’s book Go Rin no Sho (The Book of Five Rings) is in addition to Sun Tzu’s the Art of War most famous and best known book about combat and war strategy nowadays.
The Musashi Elite Katana provides authentic and excellent cutting sword that is economical for its high quality. The blade geometry and physical characteristics are a result of years of study for the optimum design for today's martial artists and is especially well-suited for Tameshigiri (martial art of test cutting). Excellent blade for frequent cutting and for advanced practitioners of Iaido (martial art that emphasizes quickly drawing the sword). The blade is made of T10 steel and is a little wider than traditional, allowing for easier cuts on normal tameshigiri targets. The traditional soaked tatami mat is the ideal target, but foam noodles and various water bottles can be an inexpensive substitute. The handle components are designed to last for years to come of tameshigiri and iaido practice.
The Musashi Elite embodies the classical design elements of one the most prolific sword designs in history. With its strong Shinogi Zukuri shape that accentuates the differential heat treatment, an authentic yokote (a line/bevel that separates the finish of the main blade and the finish of the tip) and a real hamon (wavy temper line near the edge) this blade is traditionally proportioned and styled. This sword appeals to the history collector, but also performs well in cutting of hard or soft targets. With a traditional construction and quality fittings, it features genuine Same (rayskin) on the Tsuka (handle) with a tightly-woven leather Tsuka-Ito (handle-wrap). The long tang is double-pegged with bamboo pegs for security.
A Traditional Japanese Sword maintenance kit is included. The kit contains blade oil (traditional choji oil that is made of mineral and clove oil), rice papers, an oiling cloth, a powder ball for blade polishing, a brass awl and hammer that is used if one wishes to disassemble the sword and a Saya shimming veneer to retighten the scabbard to the blade if needed. The kit is contained in a fitted wooden box.
Included is traditional cloth bag to keep your sword in pristine condition when in storage or while transporting.
