Normans (men from the north) were conquerors originating from Scandinavia who were renowned all through Europe. Normans attacked England in 1066 and through the decisive victory in Hastings went to conquer all of England in just a few years. The famous Bayeux Tapestry depicts this battle and gives us a good understanding of Norman equipment. Normans used kite-shaped, long and downward narrowing shields that protected the feet of a warrior much better than same-size round shields. This shield-shape spread all across the Europe with the Norman warriors.
This Norman Shield is made of varnished wood, with a steel boss and a riveted cross made from steel. The shield has 5 leather straps for different carrying styles. Using the long strap you can carry the shield on your back when not in combat.
