Description of the Product
Greaves are designed to protect the lower leg from the cut of a sword or the vicious kicking that occurred during battle. They were in use well before written history. Our replica steel greaves are based on patterns pictured in the reliefs on Trajan's Column in Rome, and although the model is a typical Roman one, it is simple enough to be historically accurate in several other period costumes. The steel greaves were the first part of plate armor, besides the helmet, to be taken into use in 1000CE, at the dawn of the age of knights. These greaves are fit for swordfights, be it with soft, wooden or steel swords. They feature an articulated knee piece for extra protection. Leather strings for fastening not included.
