The Tomahawk is a single-handed axe from North America. Originally Native Americans developed the Tomahawk as a stone axe. Primarily it was a weapon, but like all good axes it was multi-purpose, used in cutting, chopping, and hunting. With the introduction of metal by the Europeans into the new world, the tomahawk too improved.

The Tomahawk has never really gone out of style, and in addition to its continued use by the US army, Tomahawk throwing is a popular sport, especially in the States.

The tomahawks used by law enforcement teams or by the armed forces are often called "tactical tomahawks". These SWAT-oriented tools are designed to be both relatively light and useful in a multitude of different scenarios.

Marshal artists have known a simple truth for ages: that if your ultimate goal is to wield a razor sharp edge safely and effectively, you need to train with a blade that approximates the size, feel and heft of a live blade, yet minimizes the possibility of causing grievous, permanent, or life-threatening injury to yourself or your training partner. This concept was implemented by many cultures, including the ancient Romans, who used wooden swords to train their gladiators. The only problem was that wooden training tools can rot, crack, chip or splinter and could not be used in all weather conditions.

Cold Steel's solution to these dilemmas was to design a synthetic substitute, low in price and impervious to the elements. The Cold Steel line of training weapons are made of heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicate a real weapon in length, size, weight and feel. They have the winning advantages of being virtually unbreakable, remarkably stiff and cut resistant.

Tip: One can easily modify this axe and make it historically more suitable for example for Viking reenactment battles by cutting the backspike off with a metal saw.
