Description of the Product
The Tomahawk is a single-handed axe from North America. Originally Native Americans developed the Tomahawk as a stone axe. Primarily it was a weapon, but like all good axes it was multi-purpose, used in cutting, chopping, and hunting. With the introduction of metal by the Europeans into the new world, the tomahawk too improved.
The Tomahawk has never really gone out of style, and in addition to its continued use by the US army, Tomahawk throwing is a popular sport, especially in the States.
The 4" edge on this tomahawk gives you the maximum target penetration potential under competition rules. Hand forging makes these tomahawks strong and tough. It gives the steel better temper and makes it easier for you to sharpen. Round poll holds the hardwood handle snugly. The handle is attached with a metal wedge, which makes it easy to replace if needed.
This axe is designed as a throwing axe, but that does not mean that it is indestructible. The handles of throwing axes come under a lot of strain, and they constantly break when practicing.
There is so much mass in a throwing axe, that a quick stop at the point of impact produces a hard shock to both the target and to the axe. Even if you are an experienced thrower, the handles require replacing every so often, because the angle of the axe does not have to be too far from a perfect hit, for a large part of the impact energy to be directed to the handle instead of to the blade.
Of course, the durability of the handles also depends on experience, that is, when you get a good feel for the axe, the hits are more perfect, and bad hits don't happen as often, so the handles start to last longer. With throwing axes, the changing and making of new handles is a part of the hobby, which is why you can get cheap spare handles for many throwing axes, with an emphasis on easy and quick replacement.

ja kiitos paljon palautteestasi. Olen pahoillani ettei heittokirves ollut odottamasi kaltainen. Heittokirveet eivät tyypillisesti ole yhtä teräviä kuin esim. vuolukirveet, sillä vielä hyvinkin tylsä heittokirves jää tauluun helposti pystyyn ja kiinni. Koska terävyys ei ole täysin pakollinen ominaisuus heittokirveelle, eivät nämä tyypillisesti olekaan niin teräviä. Mutta tämä terävyysasia on toki hyvä huomio, ja lisätään tieto tästä myös itse tuotteeseen.
Kiitos myös kiinnitystavan huomiosta. Kirveen terän ja varren kiinnityksen tiiviys on näissä tomahawkeissa vähän kappalekohtaista, mutta useimmiten kirveen terä on tosiaan hieman löysässä ja irrallaan varresta, jotta terän kiinnitystapa käy helposti ilmi. Jos terä ei ole valmiiksi hyvin kiinni varressa, niin ei hätää. Kun metallikiilaa naputtelee alaspäin vasaralla terästä kiinni pitäen, terä kiristyy tukavasti paikoilleen. Terää varteen kiinnittäessä päässä oleva kiila irroitetaan kokonaan, ja terä liu’utetaan mahdollisimman ylös, jonka jälkeen kiila vasta lyödään tiukasti paikalleen. Uutta vartta kiinnittäessä toimitaan samalla tavalla, eli katkennut/vaurioitunut varsi vaihdetaan niin, että terä nuijitaan/vasaroidaan alaspäin kunnes se löystyy ja kiilan ja vaihdettavan varren saa helposti liu’utettua pois. Heittokirveissä varret tuppaavat helposti hajoamaan pieleen menneen heiton seurauksena, joten varren vaihtamisesta ja sen paikoilleen kiristämisestä on tehty mahdollisimman helppoa. Tästä palautteesta otamme koppia, ja koitamme saada tuosta varren kiinnittämisestä tehtyä oman erillisen ohjeensa, sillä asiaa ei erikseen olekaan tosiaan käyty yhdenkään kirveen teksteissä läpi.
