Description of the Product
Viha, "Anger, Hatred, Wrath" tells of one of the darkest periods in Finnish history. Based on extensive source materials, the work examines the experience of perdition experienced by the civilian population, from the perspective of both the cruelty of living under occupation and the anxiety it causes.
At the same time, the work explores how the time of war and living under Russian power was shaped into "great hatred" in the historical tradition, and how the people broke away from the time of persecution and returned to a time of peace and living under the Swedish crown. After the war and the occupation, the anger continued as resentment, bitterness, and unrest, which deepened and tested the prevailing structures of society.
Kustaa H. J. Vilkuna is Professor of Finnish History at the University of Jyväskylä.
