Description of the Product
Wooden spoons have been used for thousands and thousands of years. The earliest spoons can be traced back to prehistoric times when people used shells, stones or pieces of wood as primitive spoons for scooping and eating.
In ancient Egypt, spoons made of ivory, flint, or wood were used. These spoons often had decorative handles, with some being intricately carved with animal or deity motifs. During the Roman Empire, spoons were made of various materials, including bronze, silver, and even gold. Wealthy individuals would often owned spoons made from precious metals, while commoners used spoons made of cheaper materials like bone or wood. In medieval Europe, spoons were typically made of wood or bone. Spoons also started to have a more pronounced bowl shape during this period.
Spoons also have cultural significance in various traditions and ceremonies. For example, in many cultures, a baby's first spoon is considered a special keepsake, and ceremonial spoons are used in weddings and religious rituals.
These spoons are made of acacia wood. Acacia was seen as a symbol of immortality because of its hardness, durability and evergreen nature by ancient Egyptians and Hebrews.
These spoons are perfect for larping and historical reenactment of ancient times, viking age and middle age. They also match nicely with our wooden plates.
Acacia as a material:
Acacia wood is a sustainable and one of the most eco-friendly materials out there. Acacia trees grow fast and thrive in many different climates making it abundant material for many places in the world. Acacia is harvested and replanted without damaging the forest, keeping the environment safe.
Acacia is not the cheapest material to use, but it is very hard, naturally very dense, durable and suits well for food use. Acacia is very resistant to wear and tear and is for example popular material for cutting boards as it withstands well heavy use.
As this item is made of natural material, the grain pattern is unique in each item with varying pattern and rich, dark color.
Care:
All-in-all acacia requires very little maintenance. It is naturally resistant to moisture, insect damage and rot and thus excellent material for outdoor use also in humid environments.
After use best way to wash your spoon is to wipe it with wet sponge or hand wash with warm soapy water, rinse and dry. Do not wash in a dish-washer or leave soaking in water. Don't microwave your spoon.
No chemicals were used in production or are needed as this is 100% natural wood product without any finishing on top. There is no need to oil the item regularly, but to refurbish new shine to your spoon surface you can apply a little food safe oil (like linseed oil) every now and then. Also as 100% wood item, the item can be sanded and refurbished with complete new surfaces if needed after years and years of hard use. This is something that cannot be done plastic items, but is possible with wooden ones.
Acacia wood is biodegradable and at the end of this items lifecycle it can be composted or burned alongside firewood in a fireplace or at campfire, which means that it will never end up in landfills or the sea.
