Description of the Product
Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950’s. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.
Herugrim, meaning fierce, cruel or savage, was the sword of Théoden, the King of Rohan. The Rohirrim were a people of horsemen, and their kingdom, Rohan, lay to the north of Gondor. After his sister’s death Théoden had adopted his niece and nephew, Éowyn and Éomer. Théoden fell under the influence of Saruman, poisoned by Grima Wormtongue, Sarumans agent. Eventually Gandalf freed him, and had Herugrim restored back to Théoden, in the hopes that his fingers would remember their old strength better if they grasped his sword. At the Battle of Hornburg at Helm’s Deep Théoden fought against the forces of Saruman, and later he answered when Gondor called for aid, and the combined armies of Rohan and Gondor fought against the forces of Sauron at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. There Théoden was mortally wounded by the Fell Beast of the Witch-king of Angmar, the leader of the Nazgûl. His death was swiftly avenged by his niece, Éowyn, and his esquire Merry.
This authentically detailed replica is a reproduction of the actual filming prop built by Weta Workshop which was used in The Lord of the Rings films. As the Rohirrim were horsemen, this is also reflected on their weaponry. Théoden’s single handed sword has two horse heads forming the guard. This Battle Forged Edition of the sword was made using only the finest grade materials. The blade is made in the traditional manner with a full tang, and has a tempered 1070 high carbon steel blade. The blade has a double fuller. The solid wax cast brass hilt parts have an antiqued finish, and the wooden grip is wrapped in genuine leather.
The sword comes with a wooden wall mount that has a matching Rohirrim motif. A certificate of authenticity is included.
