With their low height just below the ankle , these shoes were a popular choice during the Middle Ages. These shoes have a leather button with an adjustable strap for a secure fit. They are crafted from full leather for durability and historical accuracy. The leather sole comes up at the back for longevity.

Poulaine was a fashionable medieval shoe style with an elongated tip or pike, and they were mainly used during the 14th and 15th Century. The medieval fashion for pointy shoes originated from Poland, hence the name poulaine, "in the polish fashion". Originally they were worn by both men and women. The pikes of the poulaine eventually grew to comical lengths, making the shoes hazardous to wear. As moral panic spread, equating the poulaine with all sorts of sins, all shoe pikes were eventually banned by the pope. We have kept our model at a reasonable length, so that the shoes are fashionable yet wearable, and of course to avoid breaking the law of Edward IV from 1463, which limited the pike to under 5cm.

Although the exaggerated design of the poulaine was largely ornamental, they may have drawn inspiration from earlier practical designs. Pointy shoes had been worn much earlier than the medieval period, at least since classical antiquity. Several cultures have used shoes with upturned or beaked tips, often for practical purposes, such as preventing snow, sand, or dust from gathering inside the shoe.
