Description of the Product
Wakizashi is a traditional Japanese sword that is single edged, short and has slight curvature. Wakizashi was made famous by Samurai during the Japanese Medieval Times when Samurai carried a Wakizashi or Tanto as a side-arm in addition of his longer Katana. This combination of a longer sword and a shorter one was called Daisho, meaning long and short. This combination was allowed only for the ruling Samurai-class and was well known and understood symbol for the high social status of the wearer.
Wakizashi was smart slicing weapon but was efficient in thrusts as well. As a side-arm this short sword was excellent inside, in tight spots, corridors and in close combat hand-to-hand fights. When entering castles it was typical to leave Katana and other bigger weapons at the castle door but keeping Wakizashi at your side was allowed for the Samurai. Wakizashi was also excellent choice when dual wielding. Katana in right hand and Wakizashi in the left was technique made famous and perfected by the famous Miyamoto Musashi.
The ever-popular Practical series Wakizashi gives the martial artist an opportunity to own and use a fully functional sword at the cost of an economy sword. The 1566 high-carbon blade is forged and differentially hardened, using the same processes as in more expensive blades. The result is a blade that has edge with HRC60 hardness and back with HRC40 harness. The blade has an authentic and prominent hamon, temper line. The fittings and handle parts are all strongly built made to withstand the rigors of cutting exercises at the dojo. The Practical Katana and the Practical Tanto match this Wakizashi making a useful and economical samurai set.
Included is traditional black cloth sword bag to keep your sword in pristine condition when in storage or while transporting the sword. Made by Hanwei. Specs can vary slightly from piece to piece.
