Description of the Product
Manica is Latin and simply means sleeve. As the name suggests, manica protected the wearer's arm, like a sleeve. Manica consisted of overlapping iron or bronze plates and provided good protection for the sword or spear hand. The Legionnaire's other hand was already very well protected, under the large shield, so the manica was only used in the sword hand. In addition to Roman legionnaires, manica was also used by gladiators.
This manica has four leather straps to tighten the armor to your arm. In addition to the leather straps, we recommend that you hang the manica from the top end also. This prevents it from slowly drifting down during battle. The manica has buckles at the top end ready for this.
Original manicae (or parts of them) have been found throughout the Roman Empire, from Italy to Macedonia and to Scotland.
