About Viking Weapons

Viking warriors used a variety of weapons both in battle and in their everyday lives. The Viking sword was an expensive way to display one´s wealth, power and success on battlefield. Single- and double-edged axes were effective weapons in close combat and were also used in daily activities such as chopping wood. Spears served as a deadly combination with shields in battles, offering both versatile use and a better range compared to the swords of enemy forces. The iconic seax, a single-edged knife, was used in everyday life like an utility knife. In battle, the seax could be used as a dagger, and it also served as a good backup weapon if a warrior’s primary weapon was lost or damaged.
